Enfield, North Otago

“Far from the madding crowd”

Set in the magic of the Waitaki Basin this year’s White Rocks Gravel Adventure offers four options. Once again we’ll be taking riders on a panoramic roller coaster over visually breath-taking climbs, exhilarating descents and a tunnel as well. All four start and finish at the Fort Enfield Tavern. The first 3-4 km of the course is on tarseal before you enter the gravel and the first of a number of steep, but brief climbs. Easing off at the top reveals wide angle views of the Kakanui and Waitaki Valleys… the awesome Waitaki Range providing the back drop. Sections of undulating road give way to a glorious descent to Ngapara and a climb to link with the famous A20 Trail. Then via the Rakis Tunnel [bring a light] riders sweep down through Windsor and the gorgeous Elderslie Estate to revive with a cold Emersons back at the Tavern.

The White Rocks+ is exactly that and is a competition Due to requests, it was decided to offer a slightly longer version of the White Rocks which features an additional loop before entering the tunnel for Enfield. The course is the same as for the other two events except you bypass the turnoff to the tunnel on the first descent of Tunnel Road and continue down the hill turning left at Victoria Hill Road and on to Windsor where the A2O is met again. However instead of continuing on to Enfield you turn left on to Peaks Road and ascend till you meet Tunnel Road again. Turn left and this time after ascending around 1km you turn right taking the A2O tunnel route to Enfield… and that cold Emersons. Entry fee is $50.00
